R&D ASSOCIATE - - SUSTAINABILITY

Sew Valley is committed to promoting sustainable practices and advancing environmental stewardship within the apparel/soft goods sector. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate R&D Associate to support the implementation and maintenance of our Zero Waste Initiatives and contribute to our mission of assisting brands and entrepreneurs manufacture locally, sustainably, ethically and efficiently.
Job Summary:
The R&D Associate is a newly created role responsible for the development and implementation of our new Zero Waste Program. This role involves setting up and operating our newly acquired fabric scrap processing equipment, creating a standard operating procedure (SOP), establishing key partnerships, reporting, and creating a comprehensive growth plan for the first two years of operations. The R&D Associate will collaborate with team members to develop insights that drive sustainable practices within the organization in support of our zero waste goals. This position is supported by Hamilton County ReSource.
Key Responsibilities:
Process fabric waste through our fabric shredding and sheet pressing equipment.
Research & develop environmentally friendly process for fiberboard/sheet pressing setup.
Create reporting systems using data collection and analysis for various sustainability research projects and client analysis.
Create Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Create product assortment and pricing structure for the processed fabric scrap available for purchase both individually and in bulk.
Collaborate with team members to identify research needs and priorities.
Establish key partnerships with external stakeholders.
Create a comprehensive growth plan for the first two years of operations, including an achievable plan for introducing this service to the general public.
Participate in team meetings and contribute to discussions around research strategy and implementation.
Assist in organizing workshops or webinars related to our Zero Waste programming and research.
Lead efforts in team training
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to lift heavy objects as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, and/or Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related field is a plus but not required.
Experience with mechanical processes/industrial machinery.
Intermediate knowledge of apparel construction, and textiles/fibers.
Familiarity with sustainability issues, practices, and policies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
