SAMPLE MAKER
Description
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sample Maker to support our apparel production team by constructing high-quality samples, mock-ups, and prototypes. This role requires proficiency in industrial sewing techniques, a strong understanding of garment construction, and the ability to translate patterns and tech packs into finished garments. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and experience working across a variety of garment categories for men’s and/or women’s wear, including:
Tops, shirting
Outerwear
Intimates
Key Responsibilities:
Construct high-quality sewn samples from paper patterns, slopers, or tech packs.
Interpret design sketches and tech packs to ensure construction aligns with design intent.
Operate a range of industrial sewing equipment, including straight stitch, overlock, coverstitch, and zigzag machines.
Cut fabric from patterns with accuracy and attention to grain, notches, and markers.
Collaborate with pattern makers and designers to flag and troubleshoot construction issues.
Attend fittings and support revisions by adjusting or reconstructing garments as needed.
Create mock-ups and prototypes for internal review or client presentations.
Finish garments to production-ready standards including pressing, topstitching, closures, and trims.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow studio protocols for labeling, tracking, and storing samples.
Qualifications:
Technical:
Strong sewing skills with proficiency on industrial machines (serger, straight stitch, coverstitch, zigzag, and pressing equipment).
Deep knowledge of garment construction and finishing techniques.
Experience constructing samples across various garment categories and fabric types.
Ability to interpret and follow tech packs, construction notes, and pattern markings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate order of operations from sample making process to production process.
Hand-sewing and fine finishing techniques are a plus.
Intermediate to advance knowledge/experience of industrial sewing machines.
Ability to make pattern adjustments for fit and design changes.
Understanding of fit, drape, and textile behavior.
PLM or pattern software knowledge is a plus but not required.

Clear communication skills to collaborate with internal team and clients.
Willingness to learn and take direction while also working independently.
