Job Title: Treasurer, Board of Trustees

Annual Give or Get Commitment: $750
Time Commitment: 2-3 Hours per Quarter

Position Overview:
Sew Valley is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented, and committed individual to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. The Treasurer will oversee the financial health of the organization, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and sustainability in all financial operations. This role is integral to supporting Sew Valley’s mission and helping guide the organization toward its strategic goals. As a member of the Board of Trustees, the Treasurer will collaborate with fellow board members to provide leadership and direction to the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Oversight:

    • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of Sew Valley’s financial status.

    • Oversee and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting, including annual financial statements, balance sheets, and profit and loss reports.

    • Ensure that appropriate financial controls and systems are in place, and that they are consistently followed.

  • Budgeting and Financial Planning:

    • Lead the annual budget process, working closely with the Executive Director to develop a sound, sustainable financial plan.

    • Monitor the budget throughout the year, identifying and addressing any discrepancies or issues as they arise.

  • Fundraising and Financial Strategy:

    • Support fundraising efforts by ensuring financial goals align with the organization’s overall strategy.

    • Provide financial insights and guidance to assist in securing grants and other funding sources.

  • Reporting to the Board:

    • Provide regular financial updates and reports to the Board of Trustees during meetings.

    • Present annual financial reports to the board and the public, ensuring transparency and accountability.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:

    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to nonprofit financial operations.

    • Work with external auditors, if applicable, to review and ensure compliance with tax filings and other legal obligations.

  • Collaboration and Teamwork:

    • Collaborate with other board members and staff to ensure the financial decisions made align with Sew Valley's long-term goals.

    • Actively participate in quarterly board meetings and provide financial advice and recommendations.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in finance, accounting, or a related field, preferably in nonprofit organizations.

  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, nonprofit financial reporting, and budgeting.

  • Familiarity with accounting software and tools (QuickBooks, Excel, etc.).

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial board members and stakeholders.

  • A commitment to Sew Valley’s mission and values.

  • Previous board or nonprofit experience is a plus but not required.

Term:
This is a volunteer position with a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.
