Job Title: Board Member

Compensation: Volunteer
Annual Give or Get Commitment: $750
Time Commitment: 2-3 Hours per Quarter

Sew Valley is seeking committed and mission-driven individuals to join our Board of Trustees and play a key role in advancing Cincinnati’s creative economy and fostering sustainable, ethical, and locally-driven apparel manufacturing. Board Members help strengthen the foundation for a vibrant, local garment manufacturing industry that provides job stability, career pathways, and long-term economic security for the community. Position Overview:
Sew Valley is seeking engaged and thoughtful individuals to serve on its Board of Trustees. Board Members provide strategic guidance, governance, and oversight to support the organization’s mission, growth, and long-term sustainability. In partnership with fellow board members and staff leadership, Board Members contribute their expertise, networks, and perspectives to help advance Sew Valley’s strategic priorities and ensure organizational accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
Governance and Oversight:
Uphold the mission, vision, and values of Sew Valley.
Provide fiduciary oversight, including review of financial performance and ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
Support organizational compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
Participate in board meetings and contribute to informed, strategic decision-making.
Strategic Leadership:
Contribute to the development and refinement of Sew Valley’s strategic direction.
Offer insight, expertise, and perspective to support organizational growth and impact.
Serve as an ambassador for Sew Valley, helping to elevate its visibility and reputation.
Fundraising and Resource Development
Support Sew Valley’s fundraising efforts, including making a personal annual contribution aligned with the give-or-get commitment.
Assist in identifying, cultivating, and connecting potential donors, partners, and supporters.
Participate in campaign initiatives and key fundraising events as appropriate.
Engagement and Advocacy:
Actively promote Sew Valley’s mission within personal and professional networks.
Attend and support organizational events and initiatives.
Help build relationships that strengthen Sew Valley’s position within the local and broader apparel and nonprofit ecosystems.
Collaboration and Teamwork:
Collaborate with other board members and staff to ensure that board meetings and activities align with Sew Valley's strategic goals.
Provide support for the annual board self-assessment and other governance activities.
Qualifications:
Proven experience in administrative or governance roles, preferably in nonprofit organizations or corporate governance.
Demonstrated interest in Sew Valley’s mission and the advancement of sustainable and ethical apparel manufacturing.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to actively engage, contribute time, and leverage networks in support of the organization.
Previous board or nonprofit experience is a plus but not required.

Term:
This is a volunteer position with a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.
